Charles Schulz Autographed Sketch of Snoopy
Charles Schulz (1922-2000) is the popular American cartoonist who created the Peanuts cartoon, featuring iconic cartoon characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
In 1962 Schulz received the National Cartoonists Society Humor Comic Strip Award for Peanuts. He also received the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest adult award given by the Boy Scouts of America, for his services to the American Youth.
This original sketch shows Snoopy in his most recognisable pose - lying on the roof of his kennel. It measures 23" x 31" which is extremely large for an original Schulz drawing.
The crayon sketch is drawn on an off white board and has a small built in frame on the reverse measuring 19" x 27". There is a label attached to the reverse of the sketch which says that it was "drawn before the Hollywood Radio and Television Society, April 26, 1977".
The sketch features some very light overall toning, as is to be expected of items like this, otherwise it is in fine condition.
Signed "Schulz" at the bottom of the picture.
Rarity and comparables
In 2010, Forbes magazine reported that since his death in 2000, Charles Schulz has earned $33 million from his Peanuts comic strips. The magazine also reported that the strip appears in 2,200 newspapers across 75 countries. With Peanuts merchandise being sold around the world, and the opening of a Peanuts theme park in Minnesota this year, it is evident that there is a huge market for Charles Schulz memorabilia.
In 2007, six original Peanuts panels were sold at auction for $193,000 and in 2008 2 hand drawn Peanuts comic strips sold for $85,000 each.
It has become apparent that Peanuts memorabilia is ever popular with collectors, and nostalgia investors, and this is your chance to own a very rare, and large, sketch of Snoopy by the legendary cartoonist Charles Schulz.
