Sold
George Armstrong Custer (1839-1876) was a United States Army officer
and cavalry commander in the American Civil War and the Indian Wars.
Today Custer is most remembered for leading his army into the
disastrous Battle of the Little Bighorn during the Great Sioux War of
1876-1877.
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as Custer's Last
Stand, was a battle between the combined forces of Lakota, Northern
Cheyenne and Arapaho people against the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the U.S. Army in 1876.
The U.S. Seventh Cavalry, led by Custer, suffered a severe defeat
with five of the Seventh's companies annihilated. Custer and two of his
brothers were killed during the battle. In total, 268 U.S. soldiers died
and 55 were wounded.
