Guy Gibson Autograph

For Sale: £6,950.00

Guy Gibson (1918-1944) famously led the "Dam Busters" raid in 1943 while acting as first Wing Commander of the Royal Air Force 617 Squadron. This heroic raid, Operation Chastise, resulted in the destruction of two large dams in the Ruhr area of Germany. For his bravery and valour, Gibson was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration.

While resting from operations, Gibson travelled America on a lecture tour and wrote a book chronicling his RAF Career during World War II. Growing weary of touring, he was granted his request to return to service. Tragically, he died in 1944 when his Mosquito crashed over Holland due to a faulty fuel tank.

A fine ink signature, Guy P Gibson, W/C, is marked on this small 2.5" x 1" feint ruled page. The page appears to have been clipped from a log book. A neat annotated line is marked underneath the autograph.

Also included is a photograph of a seated Gibson taken with D. J. H. 'Dave' Malty, one of his flight commanders, dated to July 1943.
