Marc Bolan is most famous for being the frontman of English rock band
T-Rex. He is often credited with helping to create the glam rock genre,
with his unique stage presence and individual sense of style.
T.
Rex was initially a folk rock duo called Tyrannosaurus Rex consisting
of Bolan and percussionist Steve Peregrine Took. Following an
unsuccessful tour, Took left the band and was replaced by Mickey Finn.
The band shortened their name to T. Rex and their 1970 self-titled album
reached number 13 and stayed in the charts for 6 months.
Encouraged
by the success of the album, Bolan added bassist Steve Currie and
drummer Bill Legend to the line-up. The group reached number 1 in the UK
singles chart with Hot Love in 1971, the same year they released Bang a Gong (Get It On) which would become one of their biggest international hits.
The
popularity of T. Rex began to decline in the mid to late 1970s.
Following their break up, Bolan contributed to a weekly column for the
Record Mirror and hosted his own variety television show. Bolan's
television work restored his hip image and he formed a new band who were
signed with RCA Records.
His new band never had a chance to
record. In 1977, whilst driving home from a club, Bolan's girlfriend
Gloria Jones lost control of the car. They smashed into a tree and Bolan
was killed instantly.
Bolan has since become an iconic figure in
music history due to his unique music, style and contribution to the
creation of the glam rock genre.
This is a typed set of lyrics to the 1969 song
Iscariot. The song was featured on the
Unicorn album by Tyrannosaurus Rex, made up of Bolan and Steve Peregrine Took.
There are several archive folds as are to be expected from documents such as this.
The A4 sheet of lyrics is framed with a photograph of Bolan to a total size of 25" x 16".
The typed lyrics have been signed by Bolan in ballpoint ink at the bottom of the sheet.
In fine condition. A wonderful example of the legendary musician's autograph on an early set of lyrics.
