It was Saturday May 19th 1962 when Marilyn Monroe famously sang Happy Birthday Mr President to John F Kennedy during his 45th birthday celebrations at Madison Square Gardens. Earlier that day Marilyn visited her hairdresser Robert Freeman Champion at Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue. Mr Champion then accompanied Marilyn backstage at the event in the evening where he ‘refreshed her lip color, and powdered her nose,’ before she walked on stage.
