Stuart Sutcliffe (1940-1962) was the original bass player of The Beatles. He left the band to pursue a career in art.

After becoming engaged to photographer Astrid Kirchherr in 1960, Sutcliffe decided to leave The Beatles and study at Hamburg Art College.

Sutcliffe studied under Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi who later described Sutcliffe as one of his "best students".

These lyrics to Hippy Hippy Shake (first written by Chan Romero in 1959) were handwritten by Stuart Sutcliffe. The former Beatle has penned the lyrics in blue ballpoint ink on a sheet of lined paper measuring 5.25" x 6.5".
