Flemish altarpiece Ireland
The 15th century Flemish altarpiece was discovered in a garage in Ireland

The piece was found by Father John O Reilly, who was supervising the garage's clearance.

It's unclear how the work came to be in Ireland, but it has been suggested that it may have been brought over by Belgian Benedictines fleeing mainland Europe during the first world war.

It was executed by a follower of Dieric Bouts and displays a rendering of the lamentation of Christ, a staple subject during the middle ages.
