Andreas Gursky stock exchange photos to auction

Five photographs of international stock exchanges, captured by celebrated German visual artist Andreas Gursky, are to auction at Sotheby's London on June 26.

The single lot is estimated at £2.5m-3.4m ($3.8m-5.2m). The dynamic images feature the Chicago Board of Trade, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Tokyo Stock Exchange, and the Kuwait Stock Exchange.

Gursky's God's-eye-view perfectly captures the topographical chaos of the trading floor.

Sotheby's Oliver Barker comments: "This is a landmark collection and undoubtedly one of the most important group of works by Andreas Gursky to ever come to market.

"Not only are they fresh to the market, but they represent the apotheosis of Gursky's technique and trademark subject."

In November 2011, Andreas Gursky's landscape Rhine II became the world's most valuable photograph when it sold for $4.3m.
