Original South Park scene stars in animation sale

A hand cut scene from first South Park episode The Spirit of Christmas (1992) was one of the surprise hits of Heritage Auctions’ recent animation sale.

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone produced the short while studying at the University of Colorado.

The South Park cel shows main characters Stan and Kyle

The rudimentary design, made using paper cutouts and glue, has remained a mainstay of the show - although today the effect is created digitally.

This cel shows main characters Stan and Kyle wearing expressions of dismay.

It achieved an impressive $8,962.

A couple of years on from The Spirit of Christmas, Fox executive Brian Graden would ask Parker and Stone to create another Christmas themed short (known as Jesus vs Santa).

This led to the offer of a full series for Comedy Central in 1997. South Park became an overnight sensation. Today it’s still one of the world’s most popular animated TV shows.

An original Disney animator’s desk from the 1930s made $13,145.

It was created by architect Kem Weber, who also drew up the plans for Disney’s Burbank Studios.

The desk is outfitted with everything an animator of that era could possibly need, including a shelf reinforced with metal strips for placing down smouldering cigarettes.

We have a copy of Walt Disney’s America signed by a number of voice artists and animators.
