Posters auction offers iconic images from James Bond to Halloween

Heritage Auctions' sale of film posters this weekend is offering collectors the chance to invest in some of the most visually striking and iconic images from the world of American cinema.

Posters and lobby cards from as early as 1940 and leading up to the 1980s, are currently on course to star at the online auction which closes on Sunday.

The Halloween Poster (1978)

Highlights include a 1978 Halloween poster from Compass International.

Directed by John Carpenter and starring Jamie Lee Curtis the film would prove a launch pad for the careers of both.

The brightly coloured, clean and unrestored 27" x 41" poster is the ideal memorabilia piece for fans of the film that sparked the 1980s "slasher" craze of American cinema.

At the time of writing, bids for this culturally significant film piece were up to £165 ($260).

Elsewhere, 7 rare lobby cards from the 1962 film that first saw Sean Connery introduced us to "Bond, James Bond," the classic "Dr. No", are set to prove a hit at auction.

Measuring 11" x 14", each card features images of Connery alongside the iconic Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder and Joseph Wiseman in the role of Bond's arch nemesis "Blofeld", and is a great piece for any collector of James Bond memorabilia.

These lobby cards are currently bidding at £179 ($280) but this figure could soon rise.

Alternatively, for fans of 1940s screen legend Boris Karloff, the sale features his 1940 film "The Ape."

With a plot involving Karloff as a mad scientist disguising himself as an ape to retrieve spinal fluid with a view to curing Polio, this cult memorabilia piece is a must have for collectors of the golden age of horror.

The 27" x 41" poster from Monogram Pictures is of fine quality with bids currently reaching £224 ($350) at the online sale.

Yet the most popular memorabilia piece of the film poster auction so far mixes horror, science fiction and little bit of Shakespeare.

MGM's 1956 classic "Forbidden Planet", said to have influenced the likes of Doctor Who and Star Trek, is currently on course to be the top lot at Sunday's auction.

The Forbidden Planet 112 x 14" Lobby Card

The 11" x 14" title lobby card features the iconic image of "Robby the Robot" alongside a cast list that includes a young Leslie Nielsen. The unrestored card in full colour is one of the memorabilia highlights of Sunday's sale, with bids up to £400 ($600) and counting, for the rare piece.

Heritage's auction features posters and card from over 500 films

Furthermore, with internet bids coming from collectors all over the world, the competition for this film memorabilia could soon be heating up.

The auction coming from Dallas, Texas closes on Sunday August 1 at 10pm, central time.
