George Washington survey
George Washington worked as a land surveyor in the early 1750s

The piece was among the highlights of a books and manuscripts auction at Skinner in Boston on October 30.

Before he became a revolutionary leader, Washington worked as a surveyor in Virginia's Northern Neck Proprietary.

This area of Virginia was undergoing rapid colonisation and surveyors could earn a lot of money in a short period of time.

Washington carried out around 190 surveys in the region between 1750 and 1753. He left to join the Virginia militia as the French and Indian War broke out.

We have a stunning piece of George Washington memorabilia for sale.
