Hank Marvin's signed guitar rocks auction for Cancer Research UK

Sleek lines, loud noise and, of course, decades of rock 'n' roll history and iconography... Guitars continue to be among the most passionately collected, and profitable, memorabilia pieces.

We've regularly reported on their virtues here at Paul Fraser Collectibles. And you'll have a chance to get involved yourself at Sound & Vision's "invite only" sale on Thursday (September 22). Proceeds will benefit Cancer Research UK.

Among the sale's highlights is an acoustic guitar donated by Free and Bad Company frontman - and latterly Queen collaborator - Paul Rodgers. The lucky winning bidder also gets two tickets to go and see one of Rodgers's upcoming UK shows. Bids reportedly start at £1,500.

Signed guitars are still rocking the
auction block, this time for charity

And if you're after a guitar once plucked by a bona fide rock legend, then how about a special edition Fender Stratocaster once owned by Hank Marvin? The Shadow's lead guitarist was originally presented with the guitar in 2004.

It can now be yours to own, with bids opening at £3,000. Its value could climb significantly higher, especially if the guitar bears Marvin's autograph.

Another guitar in the sale shows that the instruments' provenance can extend beyond music - into surrealist art, for instance. Also for sale is a Gibson SG painted by artist Rick Garcia.

According to reports, Garcia was given the guitar by the Gibson foundation and then painted it in his own inimitable style. The guitar is reportedly still a work in progress, at the time of writing. Bids will open at £1,000.

Garcia's striking works have previously sold for thousands at auction, making this guitar one to watch in Sound & Vision Guitar Auction's sale.

Simply email your maximum bid on any given item to soundandvision(at)cancer.org.uk by 5pm tomorrow (21 September). Bids will then be selected, and successful participants will be informed after the event.

Invitees can then attend the sale the Rolls Royce Motor Cars London showroom in Berkeley Square on Thursday. The event will also feature a live music performance - past acts have included Tom Jones, The Feeling and Newton Faulkner.
