Jacqueline Kennedy signed book stars in sale

A complete binding of the inaugural speeches of all US presidents up to JFK, signed by Jacqueline Kennedy, achieved $20,000 this week.

That’s more than double its $8,000 estimate.

Jacqueline Kennedy signed

Jacqueline Kennedy gifted this book to senator Hubert Humphrey

Jacqueline’s inscription is dated December 1963, shortly after the assassination of her husband.

It’s made out to Hubert Humphrey, who would serve as vice president to Lyndon B Johnson from 1965 to 1969.

It reads: "For Hubert Humphrey — The President was going to give you this for Christmas — Please accept it from me — With the deepest appreciation. Jacqueline Kennedy, December 1963."

The piece sold as part of Sotheby’s January 17 printed Americana sale.

The Kennedy assassination remains printed in the public consciousness. Click here for a stunning range of pieces relating to that terrible day.
