Oasis collectibles go Supersonic as collectors keep 'Cool Britannia' alive
Noel Gallagher, the songwriting force behind Oasis, was born today in 1967.

Oasis vied with fellow Britpoppers Blur for the British public's affection throughout the "Cool Britannia" phase of the 1990s.

Today, both bands are considered to have contributed significantly to the iconography of the era - and, consequently, Oasis's collectibles are becoming increasingly popular with alternative investors.

A collection of lyrics, song lists and album concepts written by Noel sold for £4,140 at Christie's in 1998, including alternative lyrics to Oasis' 1997 hit song Stand by Me.

Elsewhere, a copy of the group's 1995 (What's The Story) Morning Glory? album signed by the entire band made £625 at Christie's in 2010.

And, earlier this month, Manchester City footballer Vincent Kompany bought a Gibson guitar signed by Noel Gallagher for £6,000 at a charity auction. Noel and brother Liam are both devoted City fans.

Oasis were often accused of "borrowing" ideas from other bands, particularly The Beatles, whose collectibles go from strength to strength.

But it looks like the Gallaghers have built a legacy all of their own.

Handwritten lyrics to John Lennon's Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds recently sold for $237,000.
