Handwritten Harry Potter book to beat estimate?

A tiny handwritten booklet of Hogwarts school rules by Harry Potter author JK Rowling is expected to make up to £120,000 ($160,608) at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury in London.

Rowling made it for a charity auction in 2004. It raised £10,000 ($13,379).

Harry Potter mini

JK Rowling produced this booklet for a 2004 charity auction

The 2.4 by 1.6 inch item includes a list of books and equipment needed for the first year and comes complete with Rowling’s own illustrations.

The news of this consignment follows the record £106,250 ($140,146) paid for a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in November.

A handwritten copy of Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard (one of seven extant) sold for £1.9m ($2.5m) at a charity sale in 2007.

It’s worth noting the present item is unique, which is likely to push its value skyward.

Clive Moss, a spokesman for Dreweatts, told the Telegraph newspaper: "It dates back to 2004, when there had only been three Harry Potter movies released.

“This pre-dates much of the Harry Potter lunacy that was to come.

"We've set a guide price of between £80,000 and £120,000 but no one knows where the current crazy prices are going to end, so who knows what it could make.”

The sale will take place on December 14.
