Jenson Button's Ferrari Enzo sells for $1.6m in UK auction

October 13 saw Jenson Button's stunning Ferrari Enzo sell in pole position as part of the Spirit of Motoring auction at Ascot Racecourse, UK.

The British F1 star may have been pushed out of the Korean Grand Prix over the weekend, but his Ferrari took the lead in Saturday's sale, selling 1.4% above its £850,000-950,000 estimate at £964,000 ($1.6m).

The Ferrari Enzo - named after the marque's legendary founder - was made in a limited production run of only 399 models in 2002, to commemorate the Ferrari team's first Formula One win of the new millennium. The car was sold by invitation only to those that had previously bought the F40 or F50.

One of the world's most exclusive supercars, it is capable of 217mph, powered by a 6-litre V12 engine that kicks out a huge 660hp.

Button bought his in 2009, the same year that he won six of the first seven races of the 2009 season, securing the World Driver's Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix. He then sold the car just two years later in 2011, but was not allowed to publicise the sale due to the fierce rivalry between Ferrari and his McLaren team.

The sale follows new figures from the HAGI index revealing that Ferrari had another strong month in September, with values for the top models up 1.58% during the month. The Ferrari index has risen by 28.39% since January, offering plenty of encouragement for those looking to part with their own example.
