Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F300 to star at Scottsdale auction

A 1998 Ferrari F300 Formula One car driven by Michael Schumacher will be offered at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector-Car Auction in Arizona on January 14-19.

Schumacher remains in critical condition in a hospital in France after suffering a skiing accident.

The F300 ushered in a new era of F1 dominance for Ferrari

The example in the sale, chassis no. 183, was the third F300 to roll off the production line and was raced extensively throughout the 1998 season - with Schumacher winning six races and placing in the top three on 11 occasions.

The historic car is widely considered one of the most significant leaps forward in Formula One racing.

The design was considered revolutionary at the time in terms of the introduction of top-exiting exhausts - an innovation that proved enormously effective in terms of both aerodynamics and cooling, and is now standard in most Formula One cars.

It featured extraordinary power beneath the bonnet too, with a Tipo 047 V10 engine capable of producing 805 horsepower.

The car sold at RM Auctions in London in 2012, where it achieved £400,000 ($658,520).

Previous examples of cars driven by Schumacher have achieved impressive sums at auction, with a Ferrari F1-2000 raced in the Austrian Grand Prix in 2000 achieving $1m in 2012.

The auction will also feature the opportunity to own the first 2015 Ford Mustang GT ever built.
