A 1978 Land Rover built especially for Queen Elizabeth II is to sell on November 24
Queen Elizabeth II is normally pictured in a more regal ride than a Land Rover, however a 1978 Series III that was commissioned especially for her is to sell on November 24.

The Ministry of Defence has been given permission to sell the Land Rover at the historic Brooklands Museum in Surrey, UK. With only 1,872 miles on the clock since new, it is expected to bring 15,000-18,000 ($23,869-28,644).
The 1978 Royal Review State V Series III was sent to REME Central Workshops in Donnington in 1979 to be modified for the queen's usage. There it was fitted with a traffic light system for the queen to signal to the driver from her seat in the rear, depending on whether she wished the vehicle to stop, slow or start. Retractable steps at the rear and doors were also included. All these features still remain, making it a truly unique and desirable piece of motoring history.
The Series III is the most common form of Land Rover, with more than 440,000 examples built from 1971 to 1985.
Other famous Land Rover drivers include the wartime leader Winston Churchill, whose Series I model sold for 129,000 ($206,933) in October. The queen's Daimler Majestic V8, in which she personally clocked up 12,000 miles, sold for an undisclosed price at an auction in 2010. See our Top Five most collectible royal cars.
