Saleen S7 leads RM Sotheby's Motor City sale line-up

A Saleen S7, one of America's most iconic modern supercars, will lead a strong line-up at RM Sotheby's Motor City sale.

As one of the fastest street-legal American automobiles ever produced, the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo is considered a highly collectible modern classic.

 The vehicle could make a Saleen-record $750,000

Built with a carbon fibre body and packing a 427-cubic inch V-8 engine, it's clear to see the car's original purpose as a pure racing machine.

The example offered at RM Sotheby's is one of the final batch built in 2006 for the purposes of homologation, and can hit a top speed of 248 mph with acceleration of 0-60 mph in a blistering 2.8 seconds.

Presented in "factory-fresh" condition with just 300 miles on the clock, the car is one of the lowest-mileage examples in existence, and is expected to sell for a potentially record-breaking $650,000 - $750,000 when it hits the block in Michigan on July 30.

In 2015, RM Sotheby's sold a 2005 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo as part of the renowned Pinnacle Portfolio collection in Monterey, California, where it made $682,000, more than doubling the previous world record price for the model.

"The S7 is a great fit with our Motor City sale, an event which is best known for celebrating accomplishments in American automotive history," said Barney Ruprecht, car specialist at RM Sotheby's.

"With racing pedigree, sought-after low-mileage, and a Ford-built engine producing numbers that remain impressive 10 years down the road - this is an all-American supercar, through and through."
