A rare German Enigma machine from around 1939 is to cross the block at Auction Team Breker in Cologne on April 18 with a $29,555-59,111 estimate.
It's marked by the name of the manufacturer: "Chiffriermaschinen-Ges. Heimsoeth und Rinke, Berlin".

The Enigma machine was invented during the mid 1920s and was widely used in Germany during the second world war. The code was first cracked by a team of Polish mathematicians in 1932, with the result that further layers of complexity were added.
The present lot is the model K, which were used by the Swiss military.
The record for an Enigma machine stands at £133,250 ($208,137), set at Christie's London in 2011 for a specimen used in the film Enigma (2001).
