Antique Kentucky rifle could blast to $12k

Dan Morphy Auctions of Denver, Pennsylvania in the US will be auctioning 1,200 lots including militaria and historic firearms, on February 26-27.

Offerings for sale will include 40 Kentucky rifles, an assortment of World War I and II M1 Girand rifles, a dozen early Springfield Civil War rifles known as '1903s' and more than 60 historic double-barrel shotguns.


A silver Indian and eagles adorn the
rifle's butt

Big standouts in the auction for collectors include an outstanding Kentucky rifle attributed to Charles Baum of Pennsylvania, boasting 65 silver inlays.

Silver depictions of an Indian with a tomahawk and a flying eagle adorn the rifle's butt stock. The gun is estimated at $7.5k-12k.

Also on offer among the rare firearms is a scarce Winchester Model 1886 .45-.70 caliber bolt-action rifle, selling alongside eight Winchester pre-1964 Model 70s.

All of the firearms are highly sought-after by collectors.

Aside from antique firearms, around 170 lots of historical and political memorabilia will also go under the hammer, including banners, flags and badges.

Highlights include a US Presidential campaign flag for Benjamin Harrison, and a William Taft banner.
