The internal ID plate suggests that this machine was made in 1945, in Erfurt, Germany

The box is currently selling for £383 ($584). It once housed the Germany Navy (Kreigsmarine) Enigma Machine M4. This variant was first introduced to the North Atlantic U-boat fleet on February 1, 1942.

In its May 2012 sale, PFC Auctions sold a rotor from an Enigma machine for an outstanding $1,945. Bonhams sold a German Enigma, accompanied by its original box, for $135,000 in November 2012, making a 42.1% increase on estimate, and proving the high demand for these legendary war machines.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has an Enigma postcard signed by Mavis Batey, one of the original code breakers that helped end the second world war.
