Cole Porter memorabilia set to go under the hammer at Chicago auction

There can be few names in showbusiness in general and certainly musical theatre that are better known and more celebrated than that of Cole Porter.

Ella Fitzgerald, Dionne Warwick and Frank Sinatra all released albums exclusively singing songs he composed, his musicals included Anything Goes and Kiss me, Kate and at the first Oscars ceremony held following Porter's  deathJudy Garland performed a medley of his songs.

Some of the most famous were Night and Day, I Get a Kick out of You, Well, Did You Evah! and I've Got You Under My Skin.

Now, a Chicago auctioneer has announced that property from his estate of Cole Porter will be included in their auction next month after having been held in his family for more than 45 years.

Louise Cole Schmitt, Porter's first cousin's daughter, is committing the items to sale from her living trust.

The 41 lots range from Continental and Asian furniture to English silver, including a pair of Italian bergères come from Porter's Manhattan library. Full internet live bidding will be available.

Porter was born in 1891 in Indiana, and his musical talent and enthusiasm became evident at a young age. He studied music and aimed for a career in it despite trenchant opposition from his authoritarian grandfather.

The sophistication evident in his musical compositions carries over to his masterfully cultivated collection of furnishings.

The fine art and antiques auction takes place on February 12-14. Cole Porter fans don't need to wait that long, however. As luck would have it we have an absolutely fantastic item in stock: a set of Cole Porter Handwritten Musical Notes. Check it out now before someone else snaps it up!
