Humphrey Bogart stars with Michael Jackson at Bonhams

Clothing and film scripts from a collection of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall memorabilia are among items relating to the icons of stage and screen currently being displayed at Bonhams Knightsbridge, ahead of the Entertainment Memorabilia sale on December 16.

The collection includes Humphrey Bogart's jacket, believed to have been worn in the film 'Action In The North Atlantic' (estimated at £5,000-7,000).

It bears a Warner Bros. Pictures label with the star's name and is dated to late August 1942.

Also on display is Bogart's script for 'In A Lonely Place' (estimated at £1,500-2,000), released in 1950.

Lauren Bacall's script for 'Bright Leaf' is also part of this collection. It is dated Oct 28 1949 and contains some handwritten annotations.

All of these items were gifts to the vendor's father from Freddie Clarke, the Bogarts' butler in their Hollywood home.

British legend of both theatre and film, Laurence Olivier, is represented by a two piece costume worn in the landmark performance as Richard III, estimated at £2,000 - £3,000. This is one of many outfits consigned by London-based Angels, the world-famous film costumiers.

Fans of Olivier's former wife, Vivien Leigh, will no doubt be interested in a collection containing more than 50 letters, together with signed photographs of the couple and 'Shakespeare In Stratford' theatre programmes (estimated at £400-500).

Among items relating to TV are several costumes from the classic British sci-fi series Dr Who, while, from the world of pop and rock, comes a metal stud and piece of white-painted tarmac from the famous Abbey Road crossing (estimated at £800-1000) made iconic by the Beatles.

A Grundig TK20 reel-to-reel tape recorder used by the Beatles under their former moniker, The Quarrymen, circa 1960 and a police document signed by Jimi Hendrix, providing background to his arrest in Gothenburg, Sweden, in January 1968 for wrecking his hotel room (estimated at £4,000-5,000) will also be on show.

Alongside these - and likely to add to 2009's numerous high profile Michael Jackson memorabilia sales - are the trademark black fedora and loafers worn by Michael Jackson for the September 2001 concerts at Madison Square Garden to mark the 30th anniversary of his solo career (estimated at £10,000-12,000).

With so many items of remarkable provenance on offer, many of the iconic lots are likely to far exceed their estimates at the December 16 auction.

But, if you can't wait for the Bonhams sale, at Paul Fraser Collectibles we currently have autographs and memorabilia for sale from a host of leading cinema and music icons, including Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, James Stewart, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin and many others.
