JFK's wedding photos to draw crowds at RR Auction

A set of 13 negatives from President John F Kennedy's iconic marriage to Jacqueline Bouvier is expected to draw top bids from collectors at RR Auction on October 15.

JFK wedding photos
Four of the photos show the married couple, while two reveal the entire wedding party - a who's who of famous names of the day

The photographs were taken by back-up photographer Arthur Burges, who was hired in case anything should happen to Life magazine's now-famous photographs. They were only discovered after Burges died, and have never been published.

In fact, the only prints to have been made from the negatives are those included in the collection, with a 5 x 4 example of each.

The lot is currently selling for just $300.

The wedding, held on September 12, 1953, was a huge social event, with 1,200 celebrities and dignitaries in attendance. Life magazine wrote that "their wedding turned out to be the most impressive the old society stronghold had seen in 30 years."

Also featuring in the sale is a holiday card written by John and Jackie just before Kennedy's assassination in 1963, which was due to be sent out as part of the Christmas celebrations that year. It is currently selling for $2,600, with bids expected to soar come sale day.

There were two main types of greetings cards signed by both John and Jackie Kennedy that year. They remained unknown even to the Kennedy Library until the 1980s.

The current top lot of the sale is a letter signed by composer Franz Haydn.
