Never-before-seen childhood photographs of Paul McCartney are to be auctioned in Liverpool as part of International Beatles Week on August 29.

The photos show the young James McCartney - back when he was still known by his first name - at a classmate's 11th birthday party in Childwall in 1953.

"The woman who came in with this has no memory of Paul whatsoever," Stephen Bailey of the Beatles Shop told The Liverpool News.

"He was just a pupil at the school [Joseph Williams Junior School in Belle Vale] with her."

The Beatles Shop, on Matthew Street, Liverpool, stages an annual sale as part of International Beatles Week events.

The sale will feature 311 items, including a Beatles collector's holy grail: an envelope signed by all four of The Beatles, expected to sell in the region of £2,000.

A local fan reportedly bumped into the band in the street, and asked them to sign the only thing that was to hand.

Two pictures from the same birthday party are expected to go for around £500 each - they are good long-term investments, as whoever buys them will also own the copyright.

The Beatles auction takes place on Saturday, August 29 at the Paul McCartney auditorium at LIPA.  ____________________________________________________________
