Paul Fraser Collectibles | Babe Ruth signed photograph

I don't know if this tale is true.

But I'd like to believe it is.

In 1935, former U.S President Herbert Hoover signed his name six times for a young autograph hunter.

When asked why he signed so many times, he told the boy:

“You may want to do a little autograph trading and I understand it takes five Hoovers to get one Babe Ruth.”

Back then, every kid knew how valuable that signature was.

Forget the President - Ruth was the real deal.

He wasn't just a baseball star - he was a folk hero to millions.

And when it comes to collecting, some things never change.

So today I have a wonderful autograph for you.

But luckily, you won't need five Herbert Hoovers to acquire it.

An American legend.

Paul Fraser Collectibles | Babe Ruth signed photograph It's this magnificent Babe Ruth signed photograph.

A truly classic piece of vintage Americana.

Just admire those rich golden sepia tones.

And Ruth's iconic post-swing pose, bat on his shoulder and eyes on the horizon, as he swats another ball out of the park.

This glossy 8 x 10 full-length publicity photo is dated circa 1929.

And it features a truly first-rate Babe Ruth autograph.

It's large and bold, signed in brilliant blue fountain pen ink.

In terms of quality and condition, I'd rate it 9/10.

And it displays beautifully, as clear as the day Babe Ruth signed it.

The photograph itself is in good condition with some creasing, scattered spots and a couple of minor tears.

Just like the man who signed it, this photo has experienced some life.

The original owner must have treasured it for years.

But who the heck was Buster Bates?

Paul Fraser Collectibles | Babe Ruth signed photographOne of the best things about this photo is Ruth's inscription.

'Buster Bates' is such a great name. It grabs your imagination.

He sounds like a character from a 1930s comic book, or a small-time boxer waiting for his shot at the title.

Perhaps he was just a lucky kid who met his hero when the New York Yankees rolled into town.

We will never know for sure. But the name - and the mystery - adds real character and charm to this piece, and makes it all the more collectible.

The photo features Ruth in full swing, during batting practice at the Yankees' spring training camp in Florida.

And I believe the unusual angle of the photo helps to date the image.

The Yankees introduced numbers to their jerseys in 1929, and I suspect this portrait was taken to show off the new number '3' on Ruth's back.

It's certainly a rare photograph.

I've never seen another signed copy for sale anywhere else.

A 'blue-chip' home run.

Babe Ruth If you're looking for a name from sports history with an established track record of strong prices and ever-increasing values...

They don't come any bigger or better than Babe Ruth.

The strength and continuing growth of the market is clearly illustrated by these two recent sales alone:
 •   In April 2023 a bat used by Ruth circa 1921-22 set a world record for any baseball bat when it sold for $1.85 million.

The same bat had previously sold in 2018 for $400,000 – meaning it had more than quadrupled in value in just five years.

•   And in December 2023 a Babe Ruth rookie card, dating from his 1914 debut season with the Baltimore Orioles, sold at auction for $7.2 million.

The last Ruth rookie card to appear at auction had sold in 2013 for $450,000 – a remarkable 1500% increase in value in the space of a decade.
In recent years I've seen Babe Ruth signed photos regularly sell for more than $20,000 at auction. And they're only getting scarcer.

So when you see the price of this one, I think you'll agree it's a steal - with plenty of room for potential profit in the future.

Own this majestic photograph today.

Paul Fraser Collectibles | Babe Ruth signed photograph Buster Bates was a lucky guy, whoever he was.

Because if you owned this Babe Ruth photo in 1929, you owned something special - signed by the most famous man in America.

It was definitely worth five Herbert Hoovers.

And today, almost 100 years on, it's even more valuable.

It's a rare treasure from a golden age.

For sports fans, Babe Ruth IS baseball. He represents everything magical about the game.

For autograph collectors, Ruth is an iconic name. A folk hero from a more innocent time in American history.

And for investors, Ruth is as 'blue chip' as they come - with a strong market and a proven track record of growth.

Maybe you're one of those. Or a little of all three.

If so, this signed photograph is a must-have piece for your collection.

It's absolutely the finest Babe Ruth autograph I've ever offered, with an abundance of character and charm.
