It also includes a small typed label which reads “Charles II” beneath the signature, affixed to the document by a former owner.
The manuscript survives in good condition for a document of this age.
It's mounted on white paper and displays a light tear that goes through the signature.
It also has minor paper loss to the left edge and bottom corner, and the usual creases and toning acquired over three and a half centuries.
Royal documents from the reign of Charles II are exceptionally rare.
And to discover one with such a fine signature is good fortune indeed.

The manuscript is dated November 13, 1668.
The text addresses the Commissioners of the Treasury (including George Monck and the Duke of Albermarle).
It requests a salary payment of £100 to Peter Du Moulin, Secretary of the Council for Trade and a chaplain at Canterbury Cathedral.
Du Moulin (1601 – 1684) was a French-English clergyman who sided with the Royalists during the English Civil War.
He published two tracts against the regicide of Charles I, but managed to remain anonymous – and so avoided the wrath of Oliver Cromwell.
And when Charles II was restored to the throne, he rewarded Du Moulin's loyalty with a chaplaincy at Canterbury Cathedral.
