A 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard electric guitar has made $137,000 at Heritage Auctions.
The lot led the Vintage Guitars and Musical Instruments Signature Auction in Beverly Hills on February 15.
There were only 1,700 Les Paul Standard models produced between 1958 and 1960, with production ceasing until 1968.
This has resulted in models from this era being highly sought after among collectors.

They differ most significantly from the earlier Goldtop model in terms of colour, with the Standard displaying the iconic sunburst finish.
The guitar displays evident repairs and fret dressing, but is in otherwise good condition.
A 1972 David Russell Young Dreadnaught acoustic guitar played by Gram Parsons on his Fallen Angels tour in 1973 sold for $125,000.

It was the last tour Parsons undertook before he died of an overdose in the California desert.
He is considered a cult figure, credited with successfully marrying country music with rock and roll, and has proven highly influential on subsequent generations of US alt rock bands.
The guitar has been displayed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio for the majority of the past decade. Built from Brazilian rosewood and cedar, it displays a number of nicks and marks that attest that it was heavily toured.
