An early artwork by Bob Dylan has been consigned to Christie's Pop Culture auction on December 16 in London.

Dylan painted his pregnant wife shortly after she gave him a box of oil paints for his birthday

The piece was created in 1968, during the period when Dylan first started painting following a motorcycle crash that put his music career on hold. He was given a box of oil paintings by his wife Sara for his 27th birthday in May 1968.

The painting, depicting his pregnant wife, is expected to sell for between £50,000-70,000 ($78,950 - $110,530).

Apparently, Dylan first set out to imitate Vermeer, before settling for looser styles inspired by Chagall. His first exhibition was held in 2007 to critical acclaim, and he is now represented by famed art dealer Larry Gagosian.

Also among the music memorabilia for sale is Grateful Dead singer Jerry Garcia's famous Uncle Sam top hat, worn by him as persona "Captain Trips".

Valued at £30,000-50,000 ($47,370-78,950), it was seen at various public appearances and concerts, as well as in the now-famous photos by Gene Anthony on the steps of the Grateful Dead communal house.

A custom Gretsch guitar made especially for U2 lead singer Bono and signed by the band is valued at £120,000-180,000 ($189,480-284,220).

Also featuring is a rare signed copy of Michael Jackson's Thriller, valued at £25,000-35,000 ($39,475-55,265).

Jackson has written the first verse and first line of the classic title track on the gatefold sleeve, making for a highly desirable piece of memorabilia.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has a brilliant range of music memorabilia for sale.
