Elvis Presley birth document makes $70,000 at Graceland Auctions

A document recording Elvis Presley's birth has sold for $70,000 at Graceland Auctions.

It appears in the journal of Dr Robert Hunt, the physician who delivered both Elvis and his twin brother, Jesse.

Elvis birth record
Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935

They were born at 4am on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Sadly Jesse was stillborn.

Elvis lived with the pain of losing his brother the rest of his life - often speaking to him when he was alone, or dreaming that they were performing onstage together.

The family copy of Elvis' birth certificate is long since presumed missing, making this the sole record of his birth to appear on the market.

It's a well-known piece of memorabilia, having previously been on display at Jimmy Velvet's Elvis Presley Museum since 1981.

An American Express card that Elvis used between 1973 and 1974 made $30,000.

The lot bears his signature and was Elvis' constant companion.

Both pieces come from the collection of actor and musician John Corbett.

There have been some strong sales of Elvis memorabilia over the past few months, with a gold piano that stood in his music room in Graceland selling for $600,000 in November 2015 - a record for the star.

We have a genuine strand of Elvis' hair for sale.
