Elvis Presley concert film tops sale at Graceland

The footage has never been broadcast before

The black and white footage has never been broadcast and shows the star in superb form.

The auction house explained prior to the sale: "This unprecedented offering represents a never-before-seen Elvis Presley concert.

"The vast majority of Elvis' performances were not recorded professionally in any format (or even really photographed!), leaving us with very few examples when considering the number of concerts that occurred between the 1950s and 1970s.

"Its presentation here represents an almost surely unique opportunity to obtain such comprehensive footage of Elvis performing live."

A letter Elvis sent to his old friend Alan "Hog Ears" Fortas while he was serving with the US military in Germany in 1958 sold for $35,000.

He writes: "I can hardly wait to start singing, traveling, making movies, and above all seeing the old gang and old Graceland.

"All I do is sit and count the days. Well it'll be over in about 15 months and as Gen. MacArthur said, 'I shall return'."
