Four Paul McCartney sketches sell for $23,000 in Liverpool

A lot of four sketches by Sir Paul McCartney led the annual Beatles Auction in Liverpool on August 29 with a closing bid of £15,000 ($23,009).

The pieces were discovered by the consigner in his attic and show hastily sketched representations of the band.

It's an interesting find, as generally John Lennon is recognised as the band's principal doodler.

Other top selling lots included Ringo Starr's custom build radiogram that made £1,900 ($2,941).

In a nod to the passing of another Scouse hero, a tissue signed by Cilla Black sold for £230 ($352) - up 666.6% on a £30 ($46) estimate.

Manager of the Beatles Shop Stephen Bailey told the Liverpool Echo: "We're always going to be surprised by the things people come in with.

"There is always something we have never seen before or something we didn't know existed.

"All the auctions are great in their own way, and it's lovely to show these items. It makes the customers who buy them very happy and the people who sell them are happy with the money they're getting for them."

We have a fascinating selection of Beatles memorabilia for sale, including this set of drawings by former bassist Stuart Sutcliffe.
