Jimi Hendrix hair amulet offered at RR Auction

An amulet made of Jimi Hendrix’s hair is one of the more unusual lots offered in an upcoming sale at RR Auction.

It was made by Felix Pappalardi, producer of English power trio Cream and bassist for Long Island hard rock band Mountain, circa 1971 – a year after Hendrix died.

The amulet is from leather and includes cuttings of Jimi's hair

It’s not clear how Pappalardi came by the hair, although he certainly moved in the same circles as Hendrix.

The unusual piece of rock history was acquired at an estate sale in Hollywood, Florida and has passed through several hands since.

Bizzarely, Guitar World magazine borrowed it to hold a seance in Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland Studios on the 23rd anniversary of his death.

The star reportedly got in touch to denounce drugs, before disappearing back into the ether.

The amulet is valued at upwards of $65,000.

That would make it one of the most valuable pieces of Hendrix memorabilia ever sold.

The sale will also feature a signed photograph of Hendrix from the only in-store appearance he ever made, at the Du Monde Book & Record Shop in Cologne in 1969.

It goes without saying that this is an extraordinary rarity.

The auction house expects it to go for in excess of $15,000 when it crosses the block on October 26.
