Jimi Hendrix waistcoat auctions for $5,238 through Omega

A floral embroidered waistcoat that was once owned and worn by Jimi Hendrix has today sold at Omega Auctions as part of its two-day auction of music memorabilia, which will conclude tomorrow (June 8).

Jimi Hendrix waistcoat
Hendrix's father gifted the waistcoat to the manager of the company that arranged his bookings and security - provenance doesn't get much better than that

The long tunic-like waistcoat is in typical Hendrix style. It sold for £3,400 ($5,258), meeting its £3,000-5,000 estimate.

The waistcoat was obtained from Al Hendrix, Jimi's father, in 1991 by Tom Hulett, whose company Concerts West managed all of Jimi's booking, travel arrangements and security.

It was sold with a signed letter from Al Hendrix as well as a signed certificate of authenticity from Hulett.

Hulett also consigned another Hendrix waistcoat to the sale, which was also obtained from his father. It sold for £2,600 ($4,021).
