Unreleased George Harrison track offered at Omega Auctions

An unreleased tape recording of a George Harrison track is set to star in a sale at Omega Auctions in Liverpool.

The track is simply titled Song to Miss Mary Bee and was written in February 1968, when Harrison was in India with his wife Patti Boyd and the rest of the Beatles.

George Harrison Mary

Harrison and wife Patti kept in touch with their friend Mary Bee while in India

The Mary Bee in question was a friend of Harrison and Boyd's. The lot includes several letters and postcards from the couple.

In one letter, Boyd directly references the tape – promising “George will tape his music".

As well as Song to Miss Mary Bee, the tape also features some rough sketches of Beatles songs that would later appear on the White Album (released November 1968).

The auction house explains: “This incredible recording was made especially for the vendor whose name is ‘Mary Bee’ back in early 1968 and was sent to her by George and Patti along with postcards and other recordings during 1967 & 1968.

“... [The song] is very much in the Indian style of the music that he was heavily influenced by and producing around the time of his first studio album ‘Wonderwall’.”

Among the many other highlights of the sale is an original score for the string part on Eleanor Rigby, one of the Beatles’ best-loved songs.

The piece is expected to sell for around £20,000 ($25,803).
