1851 Franklin 1c stamp set to lead APS Stamp Show auction at $125,000

Regency Superior has announced the highlights of its 100th auction at the 2013 APS (American Philatelic Society) Stamp Show, starring the 1851 Franklin 1c Blue Type 1.

1851 Franklin 1c Blue Type 1
Position 7RE1 is the only Scott listed variety that is given a major catalogue number

Printed in Position 7R1E, this is the only one of 1,000 different positions printed during the life of the 1c Blue imperforate that shows the complete design, warranting an estimated sale price of $125,000.

It is also the only Scott listed stamp where a specific position is given a major catalogue number.

Further increasing the stamp's attractiveness to collectors is its state of preservation, with wide margins at the sides, fresh colour and an attractive black grid cancel. It has been graded VF 80 by PSE.

A note written by master grader Bill Lytle, which will be included in the sale, equates the 1c Blue to the ex-Hinrichs copy that sold for $431,250 in the October 2007 sale of the Scarsdale Collection.

Paul Fraser Collectibles specialises in sourcing the finest rare stamps for sale, with a brilliant selection that spans Great Britain and Commonwealth.
