Game-worn Michael Jordan Bulls jersey leads bidding at Goldin Auctions

A game-worn Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey is the star lot of the latest Goldin Auctions Winter Sale.

The online auction, which runs until January 30, features a wealth of items from basketball, baseball and football history, along with rare trading cards and rare memorabilia from the worlds of music and politics.

Jordan jersey
Only the third photo-matched 1998 Jordan jersey to appear for sale

Leading the sale is a game-worn Michael Jordan jersey, worn during his final season with the Chicago Bulls in 1998. The jersey is offered with remarkable provenance, having been photo-matched by experts to the game against the LA Lakers at the Great Western Forum on February 1, 1998.

Although the Bulls suffered a rare loss that day, it wasn't enough to stop the team winning the NBA championship that year, earning them their third title in a row and their second 'threepeat' in the space of eight years.

It was a remarkable farewell season for Jordan, which saw him crowned NBA MVP, NBA Finals MVP, NBA All-Star game MVP and the NBA scoring champion for the 10th and final time.

The jersey is believed to be just the third photo-matched Jordan jersey from the 1998 season to hit the market, and has bids of over $50,000.

The record price for any Jordan game-worn memorabilia was set by Goldin Auctions in November 2015, when the jersey from his last regular season game in 1998 against the Utah Jazz sold for $173,240.

Further notable highlights include a highly rare Shoeless Joe Jackson signature, a Ty Cobb-owned tobacco tin, circa 1912, and a limited-edition lithograph featuring the NBA's 50 Greatest Players, originally owned by legendary Hall-of-Famer John Havlicek.

Major trading card lots include a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Rookie Card, graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4, a 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente Rookie Card, graded PSA NM-MT 8, and a 1933 Goudey Napoleon Lajoie, graded PSA EX 5.

Also up for grabs will be a number of Super Bowl Championship rings, including LaQuan Williams' 2012 Baltimore Ravens ring, Mark Rypien's 1987 Washington Redskins ring, London Fletcher's 1999 St Louis Rams ring, and Byron Chamberlain's 1997 Denver Broncos ring.
