A typed letter signed “M. K. Gandhi,” on one page measuring 7.5 x 8.75 inches.
The letter is December 20, 1927 and addressed from “The Ashram” in Sabarmati.
It was sent in reply to Miss Francis Fuke, one of Gandhi's loyal supporters, at London’s St. Thomas’s Hospital.
The letter reads in full:
“Dear friend,
“I have your letter. I cannot think of anything better than that you should attach yourself to some hospital where you could easily come in contact with those whom you have in view.
“I remember your visit to the Ashram. I am travelling just now and I have no photograph such as you want. You may not know that during recent years I have never sat for a photograph, but of course there are many snapshots available in the bazaar.”
The letter also includes Gandhi's own handwritten annotations and corrections, adding a total of 10 words.
Gandhi has signed the letter neatly in crisp black ink.
In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and intersecting folds.
Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
A scarce and highly desirable signature from one of the most significant figures of the 20th century.
