Aguatti micromosaic table to make $800,000?

An Italian micromosaic table, attributed to Aguatti and carrying an estimate of $500,000-800,000, is among the highlights of an estate auction at AB Levy's in Palm Beach on October 27.

The table dates to the 19th century and depicts hounds fighting a boar. Antonio Aguatti was a well-known maker of micromosaics, a technique where small pieces of glass are used to recreate the variety of colours and tones found in oil painting.

A similar table, by Michelangelo Barberi, sold for £173,000 ($277,051) against an estimate of £100,000-150,000 ($160,145- 240,218) at Sotheby's London in 2003.

Other lots of note include an 18k Moroccan gold and diamond dagger and scabbard with a $75,000-100,000 estimate, and a Patek Philipe 309e Perpetual Calender wristwatch that brings a valuation of $50,000-80,000.

A glass statuette by Rene Lalique, valued at $20,000-30,000, is another highlight. The 1925 statuette, titled Suzanne, is among 75 lots of glass by Lalique at the auction. In 2006 an identical piece sold for $14,000 against an $8,000 high estimate at Leslie Hindman in Chicago.

Rene Lalique is one of the best-loved glass designers and frequently achieves impressive sales figures at auction. In September last year a vase from 1922 sold for £280,000 ($451,000) at an auction in the UK - a record price for the designer.
