Napoleonic wars model ship valued at $8,000 with Hansons

A model ship made in Britain by French prisoners during the Napoleonic wars (1800-1810) will cross the block at Hansons Auctioneers in Derbyshire, UK on September 27.

The lot is valued at £3,000-5,000 ($4,945-8,242).

Charles Hanson commented: "The prisoners who made such works of art were not treated like convicts, they were confined to the likes of prison hulks in naval dockyards, old castles or purpose built prison camps such as Norman Cross or Dartmoor.

"On the encouragement of their captors, they formed their own guilds to produce small objets d'art to sell in the camp's periodic civilian open market."

We have this authentic strand of Napoleon's hair for sale.
