A table used by Napoleon while exiled on St Helena has appeared with a surprisingly low estimate in Lyon & Turnbull's Fine Antique Sale.

The table will sell with a £300 ($471) valuation on June 26 in Edinburgh. A modest regency period table crafted from mahogany, it is a far cry from the luxury Napoleon would have expected as France's emperor.
Napoleon was exiled on the British-controlled island, situated in the south Atlantic, in 1815, following defeat at Waterloo. He was housed in a small bungalow built specifically for him, which was named Longwood House.
The table bears a plaque in French that loosely translates to:
"This small table comes from the furniture of Emperor Napoleon and was used every day on the terrace in St Helena where he took coffee."
The low estimate can be compared to those of other items of Napoleon's furniture, such as a set of six chairs from his Fontainebleau palace that sold for $17,829 at Christie's in May.
Paul Fraser Collectibles is also offering a selection of reasonably priced Napoleon memorabilia for sale, including signed letters and an authentic strand of his hair.
