Qianlong emperor imperial albums valued at $2.5m

A pair of imperial albums by the Qianlong emperor (1711-1799) will lead an April 6 auction at Sotheby's Hong Kong.

The Qianlong emperor was a keen artist

The collection consists of two paintings by the emperor himself, each housed in an album with a jade bi disc.

The works are clearly inspired by Ni Zan (1301-1374), one of the four masters of the Yuan dynasty.

The pair is valued at $1.9m-2.5m.

Sotheby's will also sell the seal of the Kangxi emperor, billed as the most important piece of Chinese history ever to come to auction, in Hong Kong on the same day.
