Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith will highlight Cottone Auctions' fall sale

A 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith James Young sports saloon will be the highlight of Cottone Auctions' annual fall sale on October 4 and 5.

The car, which carries an estimate of $50,000-80,000 ahead of the New York auction, comes with an all aluminium body and was previously owned by Wykeham Stanley, second Baron of Cornwallis.

Silver Wraiths were in production between 1946 and 1959

Silver Wraiths are design classics and have sold well at previous auctions. In 2005 a model from 1954 made $91,000 - well within its $80,000-120,000 estimate.

A Laguna Beach seascape by the artist Edgar Payne will also feature, with an estimate of $15,000-25,000. Payne was a well-known painter of American Western landscapes who lived and worked at Laguna Beach in around 1909.

Prices for Payne's work have increased significantly over the last 10 years, with Riders on Horseback his record sale. It made $553,000 in 2008.

The decorative arts are highlighted by a pair of Meissen armorial covered urns which are ornately decorated with cherubs, flowers and gold leaf. They were made to commemorate a member of the Saxon Royal house and are expected to fetch between $10,000-15,000.

Further pieces from Meissen at the auction include a pair of 19th century ewers from the Four Elements series that carry an identical estimate.

Porcelain by Meissen traditionally performs well at auction. In May of this year an 18th century Hausmaler grotesque teapot sold at Bonhams London for £169,984 ($169,984).

Over 700 lots will feature, ranging from paintings, sculpture and rugs to period furniture and antiquities.
