Aert van der Neer's Frozen River at Sunset is the headline lot of Sotheby's Master Paintings sale in New York on January 29 with an estimate of $4m-6m.

He mainly painted evening landscapes, with a particular emphasis on winter scenes. The present lot is one of a series showing villagers ice-skating on a frozen lake and is one of his greatest masterpieces.
Sadly, his work was not appreciated during his own lifetime and he died penniless in Amsterdam.
Jan Breughel the Elder's Paradisical Landscape with the Animals Entering Noah's Ark is valued at $3.5m-4.5m.
Jan (1568-1625) was the son of the legendary renaissance artist Pieter Breughel the Elder.
He began his career as a painter of mythical and biblical scenes but also developed a strong reputation for his still lifes. In addition to his solo work, he collaborated with a number of other major artists - most notably Peter Paul Rubens.
