Andy Warhol's Classic Perfume drawings to realise $40,000?

Andy Warhol's A Series of Drawings Dedicated to Classic Perfume Fragrances, valued at $30,000-40,000, will headline an online only auction of the artist's work at Christie's between January 23 and February 4.

The proceeds will benefit the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Warhol produced the 12 ink drawings around 1954, with each annotated with the names of classic perfumes - including Chanel and Carven.

Other lots in the sale include Chocolate (1983), where the confection has been mixed with gesso and painted onto a canvas, and Viewpoint - a silkscreen collage mounted on a museum board.

Both are valued at $20,000-30,000.

Amelia Manderscheid, head of e-commerce for post-war & contemporary art at Christie's, commented: "Buyers from over 50 different countries have already purchased an original work from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts through Christie's since our multi-year partnership was first announced in 2012".

"Given Warhol's broad universal appeal as the leader of the Pop Art movement, we hope the universality of the first theme of 2014 will bring even more art lovers to collect an original Andy Warhol artwork, while at the same time supporting the many wonderful projects that the Foundation carries on in his name."

2013 was a strong year for the artist, with his iconic Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster) achieving a new Warhol record of $105.4m - an increase of 48.2% on his previous best, set at $71.1m for Green Car Crash (Burning Green Car 1) in 2007.
