Barbara Hepworth's Cantate Domino valued at $1.1m ahead of Bonhams sale

Dame Barbara Hepworth's Cantate Domino (1958) is to headline Bonhams' Modern British and Irish Art auction in London on November 17 with a £500,000-700,000 ($849,060-1.1m) estimate.

The piece is numbered two of an edition of six, and cast in bronze.

This will be the first time a cast of this piece has been offered on the open market and is thus likely to attract significant attention from collectors.

Hepworth is proving hugely popular at present, resulting in significant growth in the value of her work.

In July last year her Curved Form (Bryher II) sold for an artist's record £2.4m ($3.6m) - a figure that was smashed less than a year later when her Figure in a Landscape made £4.1m ($7m) at Christie's London.

Rodric O'Conor's Pasysage Breton (1894) is likely to prove another highlight, with a valuation of £150,000-200,000 ($254,718-339,624).

The painting is thought to depict the landscape around Pont Aven in Brittany and displays the influence Paul Gauguin, who had befriended O'Conor earlier that year.

Later Gauguin invited him to travel to Tahiti, but O'Conor was forced to refuse due to a lack of funds.

In 2011, O'Conor's Landscape, Cassis (1913) achieved £337,250 ($541,000) at Sotheby's London.
