Bhavsar, Chagall and other artists sell in New York

The Doyle+Design auction will offer works by some of the most innovative artists, designers and craftsmen of the 20th-21st centuries.

It will take place on Tuesday, April 20, held by Doyle in New York.

Natvar Bhavsar's Untitled

Highlights in the furniture and design section include two objects by Wilhelm Hunt Diederich: a fine wrought iron music stand with a hounds and hare motif and a wrought iron fire screen in form of a gaucho with horse.

Both have been consigned by a descendent of the artist.

Other sales will include an Art Deco desk by Paul Follot, a stoneware vessel by Claude Conover and a bronze low table by Philip and Kelvin Laverne.

An occasional table by Sam Maloof, and a Buccellati sterling silver flatware service in the Tiber pattern will also feature.

Composition by Alexander Calder

The fine art section of the auction will offer an abstract watercolour from 1967 by the child prodigy Paul Jenkins. Jenkins, helped redefine modernism and brought American painters to the forefront of what had been a European art movement.

Elsewhere, Indian artist Natvar Bhavsar's Untitled, a raw pigment on paper will appear with an estimate of $3,000-5,000.

Other highlights include Composition by Alexander Calder, a colour lithograph, signed in pencil, numbered 141/175, estimated at $1,000-1,500.
