De Kooning's last painting to sell for $120,000 at Keno Auctions?

One of the last canvases ever painted by artist William De Kooning (1904-1997) will be a major highlight of Keno Auctions' Fall sale on October 30, with an estimate of $80,000-120,000.

De Kooning was among the greatest artists of the abstract expressionist movement, in a cohort that included Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. His work is characterised by overlapping figures and colours that build in layers of great complexity.

The painting was completed in 1990, when de Kooning was 86. It was created for Grace Tafe, his nurse during the last years of his life, and the lot includes a series of pictures of the artist working on the piece.

De Kooning's work is among the most sought after in the art world. In November 2006, his Woman III sold for $137.5m - a record price for the artist.

An E Howard & Co No. 46 Astronomical Regulator Clock circa 1870 will be another highlight of the auction, with an estimate of $100,000-150,000.

The clock is considered by experts to be one of the most desirable clocks in the world, due to its impeccable design and incredibly precise engine.

The regulator is housed in a dark walnut casing that features ornate carvings and mouldings. This particular example was unknown until recently, and is numbered 11 on the pendulum.

A No. 46 sold last year for $230,100 - a record price for an E Howard clock.
