Demetre Chiparus' The Finale realises $473,500 in London

Demetre Chiparus' The Finale has sold for £290,500 ($473,311) at Bonhams' auction of Decorative Arts from 1860.

The auction took place on November 26 in London.

The lot, which dates to 1925, depicts a curtain call by the Ballet Russes - the famed Russian dance company that toured the world between 1920 and 1929.

The male figure is thought to be modelled on Vaslav Nijinsky, the company's troubled star.

He choreographed and starred in many shows to great critical acclaim, and was the subject of a sculpture by Rodin - who was greatly moved by his performance in a 1912 production of L'Apree midi d'un Faun.

Chiparus was a major sculptor of the jazz age, producing works in ivory and bronze from his studio in his adopted Paris. His work displays both classical and contemporary influences, drawing inspiration from actors and dancers.

His Almeria sold in June of this year at Bonhams London for £265,200 ($414,000), while Dolly Sisters made  £277,250 ($432,814) in November 2012.

His auction record is held by Les Girls, which hammered for $800,000 in April of this year.

A Vitrine aus Bles walnut and marquetry display cabinet, circa 1905, by Emile Galle (1846-1904) realised £37,500 ($61,098).

A notable figure in the art nouveau movement, Galle is best known for his glasswork - which is defined by floral and naturalistic motifs.

Last year, a Galle vase made $202,546 at an auction in Paris - outperforming its estimate of $27,000 by a considerable 650%.
